67 8 track under dash parts

 I've been restoring my brothers 67 396 car and it has the under dash 8 track. I have a pic of an orig  low milage 67  with the under dash 8 track. It has the filler panel between the ash tray and tape player. Looks like I'm going to have to make one if I can't find it somewhere. The orig pic I have of it has a camaro emblem on it. Is that correct or did some one put the emblem on it. Thanks Kerry

1967 didn't use the emblem, but 1968 did.

Thanks Ed. The pic I have of one is a 10k mile 67. I have it in my email along with a few other pics of the car. When I figure out how to get them from my email to here I'll post them . Thanks Kerry

I doubt it. The November, 1967 P&A shows P/N 3903474 only being used on the 68 Camaro with U57, as does the September, 1968 P&A, the February, 1969 P&A and the February, 1971 P&A. The 1967 AIM shows only the plate (P/N 7302757), where the 68 AIM shows the plate (P/N 7302757) AND the emblem (P/N 3903474).

There's one P&A from October, 1966 that shows the 3903474 being used on the 67 Camaro, but it states it's for the glove box door, and since the 67 glove box door didn't come with an emblem, it's incorrect. Interesting enough, it says that part number 3903474 is for the 67 Camaro glove box door "exc. 350, R.S.", but it has another number (3903475) that states it's for the glove box door "w/R.S. (exc. 350)". Looks like they were originally going to add an emblem to the glove box door in 67 but changed their minds!

Bill its an  06B. I believe the emblem was  always on the car . Its an untouched car

Hard to tell from the pictures (I need a better "straight on" shot), but it appears that's a 68 AM/FM and Multiplex. Can you get a better picture of the radio and the Multiplex?

Sorry Ed these are the only pics I have of the int. We don't know where the car is any more. This car was owned by Dave Minor and he passed away.  This is a 10k mile L78 There is a chance that Zedder ( Mark Caine) may have some more pics.  This car is coded on the cowl tag for the 8 track . Does the 68 aim that same emb. because thats a 67 style  script like is on the fenders only smaller.  Why would it be on a 68 when there is already a camaro emblem on the glove box door in writing, thanks Kerry

Sorry, can't help you on the "why" question Kerry. "Why" did Chevrolet do a lot of things we don't understand!!

I'll see if Mark can shed any light on this. The car in question is a very late 06B, so they "may" have used a 68 part by then. The option is just too rare to get a lot of data points on.

Kerry how you come up with these rare parts it's amazing. Again that piece is ultra rare congrats!!

I just finished hooking up the 8 track in the first car I bought in 1977 a 69 Z. When I originally purchased the car it had an am/fm mono radio with 4 speakers and a hideous looking Craig 8 track 3124 mounted on the console lid like the orig GM. The factory hole for the wiring was there,  and the two securing screws along with the convector  mounted on the steering column. Even back then I knew it was an original 8 track car. In 1979 I removed the Craig 8 track replaced the console lid and installed a blue light stereo.

Fast Fast forward 2010 I purchased this car back which I sold in 1983(got married and bought our first home). Once I knew I was purchasing the car back I searched craiglist and found a correct 8 track head with bracket but no wiring. Well I pieced it back (made up a 605 interconnect cable and spliced the 16 wire cable with connector) and last night installed it in the console and was playing Grand Funk Railroad. Memories of the high fidelity 8 track came to life. Whats interesting is that I own four cars with factory ordered 8 tracks and they all work.    I may need to lubricate and clean the capstan/ bearing any suggestion on lubricants.
