I don't know that you will add much value, but it would be more correct. I love Daytona yellow with the blk vinyl. Do it because YOU want it!

It would make it more original, but value is in the eye of the next buyer...

I would only do it, if I liked the look of vinyl tops.
Increase in value would be minimal IMO.

For whatever reason you don’t see many Z’s with vinyl tops. And, it probably wouldn’t add much value but originality is the name of the game with a car like yours, and your color combination w/a black vinyl top would really pop and set it apart! If it were me I would definitely have it installed.

Great looking car & nice history!

Here's a sample (& yes the grill is the wrong color...);

I agree. I think the black top really makes a yellow car pop. I was just hoping the cost of putting one on it would be made up in increased value of the car. I just don't get why so many Z's that have been restored have a black grill.

I wouldn't worry about if the value went up or not unless you are planning on selling it later. Just do it (or don't do it) for yourself and have fun with the car.

First off Danny, Congratulations on what appears to be a very nice addition to that L78 Nova.
Yes, I agree the black vinyl top would look great and be in many of us purist minds more correct/original but for now, I'd suggest just sitting on it and enjoying the car. Yea, maybe its something down the road but for now just let the car settle in and see where your mind takes you a year from now. Just my .02 but again, congrats Danny!

Thanks........probably right, just let it settle in is the smartest thing to do.

You asked the same question on Team Camaro.....that answer should be what ever you want the car to be.
But to ask that question on CRG...that answer is and should always be to put the f'n top back on as original. JMHO

My idea of finding a car to have fun with would not have attached to it a 65K price tag. Lets fess up…this is a trailer queen and no one in his right mind is going to “have fun with it” in our sense of the word. IMHO, fun would be going out and spending way < ½ that amount, then going out and stomping on that bad boy and really…”HAVING FUN”! The only fun Danny is going to have other than owning this fine Gen, is arriving safe at each destination w/o any scratches… ;D

How much more would you have spent if it had it???? Do your own math.

Congrats to a really neat car!
My X44 also had the black grill when I bougt it! When I was proud owner of my cream car I thought the that the 69 Camaro grill always were black. Then when I found this site and got educated in Camaro history I realized what was right or wrong. I think this thing with black grill are based on oridinay peoples opinion of whats "looks grea"t in combination with a lack of knowledge! ;)

BTW, I also would go for the blk vinyl top, just because! :)

My question was not if but how much value it would add.

So, Danny, you're asking "the glass is half full" question...  I get it!   ;D
But the basic value of a Z28 has little to do with appearance options.  A Z is all about performance.  So, document the top was an original option, keep all your receipts, add the cost/labor of putting on the vinyl top (and any other work you have done) to what you have in the car, figure what appreciation you would like to have out of it; and then, declare to anyone who is interested that is the "value" of the car.   8)
...And then, be prepared for all "the glass is half empty" responses.  ::)
