Main case 3925660

Tail  3857584  this has speedometer on opposite side,Where do i find a longer one? What is part number?

How do i identify which bellhousing i have? Any good links to exploded view of the assembly?

Hurst shifter that I got has lot of rust so I know its not too new,how could  ya tell if its a orginal  type or a universal replacement? Suspect weld near mounting holes to main link selector?

What about the usual worn out parts to look for?Maybe its had too much fun in past, thats what I am looking forward too..Better to find it now before I install it.

Well now you can see I have never worked on/or setup a manual shift tranny all I ever had was the automatics. Thanks  again in advance.                                  craig

Craig - The above tells us your transmission is a 1970 Muncie M20 4-speed assembled on August 12, 1969.  It was originally in a 1970 Nova (Chevy II).

  Thanks Paul..
Are all M-20  a wide ratio? Is that a good fit for a .30 over 327, hydraulic cam, 4barrel,  headers,12 bolt posi  & 3:55 gears? Street only 15" radials. I connected the frame & installed new monoleafs.Should the shocks I buy be a certain type for the best ride? I have yet to buy any.Again any advice would be deeply appreicated. Thanks in advance ...craig

If you are not going to rebuild the Muncie open the side cover. Look for worn brass rings, missing keyways, worn teeth on the gears where the slider goes onto the gear and worn or broken gears. Also feel the shift forks edges. If the are sharp to touch they are worn and will cause sloppy shifts. This will not insure you that all is well but it is a start. If you do a bearing kit and find a worn slider replace them both or the 1 2 shift and the 3 4 shift will feel different.

Yes all the M-20's are wide ratio. Yes this is a great fit for your car. As for shocks I went with just a regular Monroe. Rides as well as can be expected and corners real good.
