Rear end was built a week after the car?  05A build date with a BUO513G2 rear end.  That dog won't hunt.

I believe the trim tag date is when the body was started and that could have been the end of the first week. So, I guess could be possible unless someone with access to the CRG DB can get an approximation of those date ranges of trim tag, rear dates (for that particular gear ratio).

Yeah I guess it could have been pulled to wait on parts or something and got held up but without the POP we'll never know for sure.  I'll still say IMHO it's not normal.

Since you hi-jacked this thread I can quickly point out two problems with that car.  69 Z28 never had "Double Hump" Heads, and never had Silver Stripes.

69 Z's did have the double hump heads....they just happened to be externally designed a little bit different.  Check out "Chevrolet By The Numbers" written by Alan Colvin.

No cars were pulled to wait for parts. If the parts weren't there, they weren't built.
That axle is too late for an 05A car.
Restored, silver stripes, style trim added - not really comparable to the other car in the original thread.

Hi Mike.....the #3927186 is similar to #3917291. It is identical to #3782461, except for the external changes of temp sender, accessory bolt holes, and the double humps were made smaller.  The combustion chamber also had a redesign.

Here is a photo of the end of a 186 head...



So I guess it's just a matter of not considering the later 186 a double hump because of it's exterior changes.
