Some cars got them some didn't, if I did not find markings on my car I would not put something on it that "might have been there",or just to make it look like someone elses's car.
PLUS the markings were painted over during the black out process. they would have only been visible to someone who studied the firewall very closely.
The cars with the marks over the black out paint are in all likely hood wrong, (Unless there is photo documentation showing the markings over the black out paint.)

Hey firstgen:

I too agree with the under black markings, and I will admit to having put them over the black at times (per owner's request).  But recently I did find a color abbreviation on top of the black.  I posted this on TC (no explanation has been found), so you may have already seen this:

Yes, Mark.  It is an Azure Turquoise car.  Just cant figure out why it was written on top of the black, well after the car had been painted.

Probably to get the right color front end on it on the GM side of the plant.  Code 55 is fairly close to code 53 Glacier Blue, and you'd be surprised how many color blind people ther are out there.

Thats an interesting thought, Mark.  And if you really have trouble seeing blue's, like myself, LMB can look similar to those two at times.
