Turbo 400 and column shifter
« on: October 06, 2006, 06:21:40 AM »
I'm been thinking about this, thought I'd ask the masses. Was it possible to order a 1st generation Camaro with a turbo 400 and a column shifter. I've never seen one and have always been curious.

Yes.  I've read that some of the Yenko cars that the dealership converted from COPO cars were originally column shift-equipped.  Yenko removed the handle and installed a Hurst (dual-gate, if I'm not mistaken).

Column shift was the base. If you didn't order floor shift with consol that's what you got.

Of the 50 '69 ZL1s ordered by Fred Gibb Chev 20 were T400 and all had column shifts.

I know this is true, but it just seems kind of strange to use a column shifter on a ZL-1.
Somebody's sense of humor - maybe......
