IDENTIFICATION STRIPE
« on: May 26, 2011, 11:27:08 AM »
I'm not sure if this is the correct section for this question, but I'll post it here to start. Can anyone tell me what the colors were for the identification stripe on leaf springs? I saw it pointed out in the A.I.M. and have seen it reapplied on several cars at shows. It is the paint splotch located on the bottom side of the spring just before the front spring eye. I am specicically looking for the color for the '67 350 SS convertable color code. I have seen a light blue used on a '69 Z-28, but I'n sure that's not correct for my car.
Thanks,
Sean

Best advice - GM did different things from car to car, shift to shift, day to day, etc... so if you restore your car based on what you find on your car you will be correct.  Even if it is worn away and can't be seen how can you be sure it was there?

I agree with GI Joe and for the most part are only putting back on marks actually found with the exception of the PTB. According to Quanta Products LLC paint marking sheets they state "There is a colored dab on the rounded part of the spring where the front mounting bolt attaches it to the mounting bracket. The color of the mark depends on the vehicle weight (spring used). We do not have information on the color of this mark at this time. We suggest you search for the mark and put it back the same color as original if possible."
