Look on the side of the hood all the way in the corner on the rear side. On original hoods there will be faint stamps indicating the week it was built.

Phil...just a thought. When you downsize your pics try keeping your KB < but as close to 100KB as possible.

That's the ZL2 Special Ducted Hood option, covered in detail in the ZL2 section of your '69 Assembly Manual. There's a plunger-type switch mounted on the accelerator lever on the firewall; when you go to wide-open throttle, the switch closes, activating a relay that mounts above the heater blower housing. The relay triggers the solenoid mounted in the hood, which opens a flap in the rear of the duct in the hood, allowing cooler outside air directly into the air cleaner (and a great induction roar).

Phil, I thought I would let you know the ZL2 hood was not available for 67's or 68's, but there's a poop load with them.

Per: CRG
Cowl hood (ZL2): The cowl hood was an option on SS and Z28 models in 1969 and was included on all COPO's and Pace Cars. It was introduced midyear 69 and the first known Camaro to have one from the factory was the #1 ZL1, built 12E. No documented cowl hood car before 12E has been found. The ZL2 option included a solenoid and flapper in the hood. The wiring for the solenoid was routed thru a special hole in firewall above the fuseblock. Only 10,026 cars received cowl hoods in 69 and about half of those went to COPO's and Pace Cars, meaning there were only 5,000 Z28's and SS's (out of about 20,000 Z28's and 30,000 non-Pacer SS's) that received the cowl hood.

thanks  john  wyk   and everyone who replied. i will try to get code for crg database when i find
where it is.any thoughts as to the turquoise color it was? my 67 camaro 6 was a LL turquoise not quite pleaseing to me.(the one pix w/profile)is now a 74 caddy blue w/metal flake.the old paint seen its better days i had favored the 2010 impala imperial blue ..until i got this hood..i flat blacked it
to avoid such stark contrast.(as you can see thru thin spots,) some color is visable.may repaint it the 6, that color.. its a 69 color ?what would be the code or correct # for it?
any interest in the ZL2 hood would be seriously considered.my cars are 67`s...phil

thanks my red,
i have found the code on 2 of my hoods .both have gm notch.1 is stamped on the camaro 6
(which was a norwood  jan. 67 build date car.the ole turquoise paint dead giveaway) at least i now
know which one it is...lol.the other is a 12 stamped in hood of which had the forward facing
speedway( mailbox )fiberglass scoop that was on the car when i got it in 1979.
the ZL-2 hood doesn`t have the gm notch and no suprise no stamping.after re-reading the hood
posts from the past it does bear out crg consences that very few original ZL-2 hoods would have
been separated from the car it was born to.i had seen ads that aftermarket hoods that could be
fit w/parts (sold separately) to make it functional.it would seem i have 1 of those.and one that
could never be fitted as there is nothing to mount it too.so much for the 69 turquoise color!lol
the previous owner of my rs took hood and deck lid for a 67 z28 that he had also got about the
same time as the rs.swap to keep the z more original and so sorry the rs got those aftermarket parts.
which hood would you use on the rs? the 1 or the 12  ...lmao now..thanks for the input..phil

phil_  What was the build week of your car?  The 2 digit code on the hood is build week.  From what I have found, the body panel date code should be 1 to 3 weeks before the car build date.  The link above hood build date is week 43, my car is an 11 A (66) build date and as near as I can figure that is week 45.  All body panel date codes I have found are 42 to 44.

 hey myred67,

thanks for link , wish my stamps took that great pix.the camaro 6 is a 01a build car.the color is HH.

guess thats mountain green instead, but fact remains the stamp is single digit  1  that almost

missed the edge of hood.the  other hood w/scoop  also a at very edge of hood and is 12.the

top loop of two is missing, off edge. i would guess its march..that fits the 03D build  RS,and as

previous owner took its.. to put on his 67 Z28 (that is so much more the important car) that

with all that rusted out and needed replaced on the rs .it dont matter much such a lesser car is

not worth saving to so many of purist here.still glad to have helped someone (w/cancer) that

is if it wasn`t just a ruse.and save what i could of a car i consider worty of  it.makes all those

true surviors worth their weight in gold.and those companies making teens thousand $ shells

the real suckers bet..so the cars `ll be re-built my way, cause i don`t care what purist think and

thats why this site (with so much to share )only has limited members..and car clubs too are in same

boat.this is my last post.if ya got a survior enjoy it,if ya got a modify it to be happy..do it...phil
