1969 6 cylinder ID Numbers
« on: November 16, 2010, 12:45:58 AM »
The situation I have is this.  My wife bought me a 1969 Camaro project car.  I had intentions to build a street rod with a Chevrolet 454.  The car was a 6 cylinder car.  It still has a 6 cylinder in the car and may be original.  The casting number (3994257)on the block are identified as being used in cars and pickups in 1969 so it is possible this is the original engine.  I am having problems with the VIN number (F0121TCD)on the block.  From what I have found this is not the VIN numbers used for the 1969 Camaro.  If the engine is original I am going to build the car back all original.  There were approximately 25,000 1969 Chevrolet Camaro Coupe built with a 6 cylinder, a little over 1,700 convertibles.  I'm sure most of them if still on the road have been rebuilt with a V8 so an original 6 cylinder Camaro Coupe would be relatively rare.  Any help on identifying the VIN number on the engine.  The VIN number is located on the pad by the distributor.

According to the numbers it's not a born with engine.  You have also confused the engine assemby stamp with the VIN.
