Disassemble bucket seat
« on: April 07, 2010, 04:42:19 PM »
I'm a little embarrassed to ask this but can anyone tell me how to separate the backrest of a bucket seat from the seat bottom? I've been wrestling with this for an hour and I'm stumped. What's most embarrassing is that I recovered these seats twenty years ago and obviously got them apart to get the vinyl cover over the hinge pin. I guess it's true that the memory goes first.

The hinge arms appear to be welded to the backrest frame and the hinge pins appear to be welded to the bottom frame. What am I missing?

TIA, Mike.

You have to pry or pull the backrest arms away from the bottom seat stud that it fits over.
It's not easy, but it is the only way to get them separated.
There should be a clip pressed over the stud that needs to be removed first.

Thanks for the tip. It's apart and that's what I ended up doing just out of frustration. I pried it apart from inside the vinyl cover and got it apart without damaging the vinyl.

Mike.
