When a Z/28 had the RPO D80 option installed at the factory I have read that the rear stripes were not painted down to the rear edge of the trunk deck.
  - How far up from the rear edge were the rally stripes terminated?
  - Does anyone have pictures of a rear deck with the factory installed spoiler removed?

Front edge of the spoiler.  Spoiler was mounted on the trunklid when the stripes were painted.

Actually I believe the stripes were painted before the spoiler was mounted, and they extend partially under the leading edge of the spoiler. They do not show between the spoiler, and the back of the trunk lid. Photos I remember seeing show that the paint feathers off under the spoiler, not a sharp line.

Attached are a few pictures of the stripes from an original, unrestored 03D build date '69 Pace Car.  They show that the spoiler was on the car at the time the stripes were painted, and did not extend beyond the front edge of the spoiler.  The '69 assembly manual, pp. 474 - 475, shows where the D80 stripes are to be painted on a car with the D80 rear spoiler.

The quality of the masking was not that good and allowed considerable stripe color overspray to “peak out” beyond the indicated boundaries.  As we restore our cars, it difficult to intentionally be this sloppy.

Good luck with your project.

Here are a few more pictures showing that the spoiler was on the trunk lid when the stripes where painted on this original, unrestored "10D" October '69 build Norwood Z28.

PS: This Z28 is a cool car, and a fun car to document.  It has been in the same family since new; a no. matching car with all the desirable documentation, as well as the all the owner maintenance history!

Regarding the "quality" of the paint work back then, see how the stripes feathered into the trunk gutter area.  They were not exactly painting “show quality cars”.

I hope this helps.
