68 grill paint
« on: June 22, 2009, 06:40:40 AM »
On a past post I learned that the outside edges of my grill should be a semi-gloss black, but now that I am about to paint it I guess I should have asked how far the black would go.  I understand about the parts that are seen, but what about under the trim pieces or bezels that go over the grill?  Just enough so that you dont see it under the trim or should it go all the way to the edge of where the trim pieces go ie. where the holes are for the trim?

I am presuming that you are referring to a standard grille.....so here goes.  I went by my storeroom today and while I was there I looked at my original 68 grille that is from a '68 Z28, 07C car.  The whole inside of the grille is painted silver all the way to the flat areas of the sides, top, and bottom.  The rest of the grille is black......and the black covers the entire front of the grille....all the way to the outside edges.  The back of the grille has no paint with the exception of overspray.  Hope this helps.

When you take off the trim bezels should there be some black under there as well?  Was it masked to keep the black out of this area or just oversprayed so you couldn't see the silver under the bezel?
The rest of the grille is black......and the black covers the entire front of the grille....all the way to the outside edges.

The bezels have been removed and it is just the bare plastic grille and the black paint covers everything all the way to the outside edges.
