1969 to 2010

Look what I ran across today while out for a cruise!  A 2010 Camaro SS. You should have seen the crowd around these two cars. This new Camaro is far better in person than in photos. It is really really cool!!

I agree about the white stripe. In fact that stripe was put on by the owner not Chevrolet. I don't care for it much either. The good news about that car is the interest in generated in that parking lot. People were pulling in like mad asking as much about the 2010 as my 69 which is not normally the case. I think this car will help bring back some interest in the autombobile industry along with the Dodge Challenger and Ford Mustang.

actually that side stripe is a factory option. if you go to chevrolet.com and choose the "build your own" option it can be seen in several different colors. the hood stripe is a separate option from the side stripe.

I'll take the 1969 without any hesitation.  To me the 2010 looks too, I can't think of the words I want to use, too thick, or too high from the rocker panels to the bottom of the windows.  Makes it appear very unaerodynamic.

saw one yesterday in person for the first time. it was a silver 2lt rs v6. looked nice! the side window height reminds me of the chrysler 300. high belt line with a low roof. looks kinda like it's chopped. i think it makes it look low to the ground. wasn't too hot about the stitching on the leather seats though. otherwise i would say it's a winner.

Our dealership got our first new Camaro today--a yellow one, and I just happened to drive my '68 today. Pretty car the 2010, but every single person that saw it said they'd take my '68 any day--even still in primer. Long live the 1st-Gens!

We also have a yellow v-6 2010 camaro on the show floor. Very cool car that gets alot of attention. Best camaro since 1969 in my opinion.

and that, my friends is exactly what is wrong with it IMO.  Chopped hot rods are cool...chopped muscle cars are not.

There is no contest between the styling superiority of the 1st gen over this car.  Visibility to the side rear cannot be very good either.

Saw one in person for the first time a couple of weeks ago while on a business trip in Houston.  Pulled into the same gas station where the 2010 was being fueled.  I was not overly impressed.

Gotta disagree. My 68 has a chopped feel when you get in it just like the new design. The rake of the windshield and high dash are very similar in both designs.  Front glass looks large form the outside but it is decieving once inside. I have driven both and am impressed.

The side stripe is added by dealers as an option, not sure about the hood. I definitley don't like the hood block. It is too wide to be considered a stripe to me.
Either way though, the new way of adding striping comes off as cheap. Painted was way better than Yinyl and decals for a quality feel. The Challenger RT has a vinyl type decal as well, only it comes off as even cheaper because the topical application has a printed pattern of carbon fiber on it - lame.

I am surprised by the 69 references when the body shares more 67 and 68 to me. The tell tale body crease coming from the wheel wells is missing that distinguished the 69. Adding the quaters grill work and console guages isn't enough features to say 69 in the inspiration.

Overall the new Camaro scores well by me.

Right on, Rich! It's just not the same. Be it a new Camaro, Challenger, or even a Vette, they SUCK from behind and the styling just can't match the early ones. The 1st-Gen body lines are timeless from any angle. Any '67-'69 with a rear spoiler looks just as good going away as it did coming at you--can't say the same for the new crop of cars. They just look--blocky--to me. But that's just one '68 Camaro nut's opinion. I hope the new ones do well!

Yeah I agree hotrod and rich.  That is what I was trying to say in my earlier post.  I have always disliked that Chrysler 300 high sides, squashed top look.  In one driving review for the new 2010 Camaro I read in one auto magazine they mentioned that the rear view out the passenger side was too small.  Give me a 1967-69 for timeless styling and class.  Even a 1970-73 has timeless styling in my opinion.  The new 2010 Camaro will have to grow on me I guess; haven't seen one in person yet.
