4 Spd Shifter Advise

Hi i need a little help making up my mind on my 4 spd shifter for my
67 RS/SS the shifter is getting worn out should i replace it or try & rebuilt it

Depends on what your plans are for the car. The orig Muncie shifter sucks if you are gonna go racing. It is mounted to the crossmember. A hurst shifter would mount to the tail shaft and move with the transmission under torque. If the car is all original, you don't have a choice.

If you choose to go the Muncie shifter route you have two choices, a repo shifter that has all new parts but technically is not an original shifter, or a used one that might not be any better than your old one.  If originality is of no concern to you, the Hurst Competetion Plus is the way to go.

Install a hurst competition plus shifter body and attach the Muncie stick.   Would look original in the car and shift better.

I would like to stay with the factory shifter does any one sell a rebuild kit for that shifter ?

clean and lubricate the mechanism; install new bushings on the rod ends; and perhaps install the GM 'engine torque restraint' to minimize engine rotation during acceleration.
I did a quick search and found this reference:
"Volunteer Vette sells an excellent rebuild kit for the stock Muncie shifter - 'someone' wrote a photo-illustrated technical article on that rebuild in the January '08 issue of "Corvette Enthusiast" magazine."

I have rebuilt a bunch of Muncie shifters and they work pretty good if done right but they were just not designed for hard shifting.

If you like banging gears you want a Hurst

If you want a correct resto you want an original restored Muncie shifter

They are hard to find with all the correct small parts but they are still out there.
