« on: February 06, 2009, 02:30:22 AM »
I searched the website and sis not find this cars VIN listed 8L327759. Already at $22k (Reserve not met) and the engine is out of it. Claims to be low mile original and has a healthy description. Anybody know this car?

Jerry -

I sent the seller (Dan) an email regarding the difference between the VIN of the vehicle (124378L327759) and the partial VIN stamped on the engine pad (18L327627).  Here's his reply...

"we don't know if this is the original engine or not. I bought it this way 8 years ago. I have talked to some professionals and they said it is possible that whomever stamped it, might have looked at the wrong paperwork. It is just the last 3 numbers. SO many other things match-up."

I've seen original partial VINs stamped wrong before, but the ones I've seen have only been off by one digit.  This one has the last three digits stamped wrong (132 units prior).  So Jerry and others, my question is, is this possible?  Have you ever seen a partial VIN stamped this far off from the vehicle VIN?  Thank you.

Didn't they stamp the trans the same time as the block?  If so wouldn't those same  627 #s would be on the trans as well.

Paul,

Never seen one that far off.  Usually they restamp over the mistake.  At least that has been my experience.  Plants have also done a factory pad regrind.  One of the '67 Z28s in the national registry is like this.  I have the photo in my 67-68 Camaro book.
