voltage regulator
« on: January 20, 2009, 02:39:16 AM »
Anyone know how to decipher voltage regulator date codes?   How about 3F. I'm guessing 6th week of March 69 seeing as March 69 had 6 weeks. It's from my 69 pace car with an 05A build date.

It's probably a replacement from 1973 no doubt. Not surprising as they were marginal at best. I'm also surmising that the majority of the miles on this car were put on it in it's first 4-5 years. After that it did most of it's sitting around and that would explain this regulator still being on the car and not one of the modern electronic versions. Thanks for the help guys.

PS. This site is fantastic. I'm not new to the arena by no means but new to this site. I love it!!

JRSCHEV,

First off, Welcome Aboard!!!  Second, you the same JRS Chevy that sells parts on eBay or the swapmeets in the northeast?  I know the name, and know I have purchased stuff from you if your last name begins with R.

And yes, number is the year and letter is the month.

Yes, Chris. That is me. I've been buying and selling NOS for over 25 years. I wish I had all the NOS Camaro stuff I had over the years. First I would be rich and secondly I could use them on this Z11 I have. Now I'm kicking my self every time I need something. I can remember having that part at one time or another!! I'll find it all again slowly and get this right.

I'm really enjoying this car and especially this site. Someday I'm going to write an article all about NOS parts. I have so many GM books and documents it's crazy.

Thanks for the shout.

I just found an NOS 9515 regulator amongst my NOS stash. I guess I didn't get rid off all the good stuff!!  Fact is these regs fit the big cars too (Impala etc) and that's why I have it. Just found the correct Delco distributor cap also. Can't wait to get out in this car when the weather is good.

Thought that was you!  Know how you feel about the parts, worked in a GM dealer ways back and wish I would have cashed in my paycheck at the parts counter and kick myself too for all the stuff I had and gave away with the cars I sold.

Yeah, those 515's were on almost everything with the low output alternator.
