Hi everybody!
I called my cousin on vacation, but when he got on the phone, I didn't have the heart to tell him that all along his beloved camaro is indeed a firebird!
He has only owned Chevy since he bought his first car, I think he might have a heart attack knowing he has the enemy in the garage. lol...
I am eager for his return so we can start taking all the baby crap off of the car so we can get to the VINs Rusty spoke about.
so I've noticed a few things since:
Looking very very closely, I can see where the previous owner(s) used bondo or something similar to cover up the firebird 'slits' in front of the rear wheels. The car is wedged up against the wall where only the drivers side is visibile. Moving it, I'm pretty sure we'd see the same on the other side. Holding a flashlight up to the side of the covered area, I can tell that someone used a good ol' fashioned paint brush to paint over the bondo, since I can see bristle marks on the extreme edges. Whomever did it, obviously wasn't "totally devoted".
The color of the spot under the original vin tag is indeed green. A very very light green. I'm not sure if it's the Linden, but it looks like a shade or two lighter than the pea soup from "The Excorcist"
The entire front clip is from a Camaro. I now recall my cousin and I having issues aligning the front grill with the two new headlights he had purchased and I recall him saying he had trouble installing a front bumper. In the end he never was able to get it on, but we agreed it looked cooler without it. I'm curious as to how many body parts were interchangeable between the Camaro and Firebird
The Rear panel is a Firebird, but the trunk lid is from a Camaro. It even has the cursive camaro plaque in the lower right distinguishing as such!
As for show, about the only thing left that's show quality is the green paint under the VIN tag. LOL. The car is a mess and will require work to get it up to at least daily driver standards. Plus, I'm pretty sure at this point we'll change everything back to a Firebird, which will require more work. Interesting note, I found the registration from the DMV when he had listed it as a Non-op, and surprise, surprise it's listed as a 1967 Camaro.
I wish we had the internet back then. Then at least he would have known what he was buying.
I will still try and post pics up for you guys, so we could all get a good laugh. Thanks for your replies.
