Follow up to L30/M20
« on: April 04, 2008, 01:35:12 PM »
I posted a message on Feb 3rd about my 67 rs convertible w/ac being a possible L30/m20, but at the time was unable to get the trans date code.  Also, the shop that restored the trans spoke of the vin being stamped on the trans, which matched the cars vin.
We just got done pulling the trans to fix a leak, and I'm excited to report that the date stamp ( R 7S02 ) and the partial vin (  7N132678 ) both match correctly and completes the last piece of the puzzel.
My question is, how rare is it to have the partial vin stamped on the early models of the m20 trans?  My understandiing is that we didn't see this done except for the Z-28 and SS in 67.
Here are photo's of trans http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/jj18/34gogo/Picture011.jpg

Hi Jeff, I just read your post. I also have a 67 O2B LOS built L30/M20 car. Could you tell me when your body build date is on your body tag? I don't know if the forum members just overlooked your last question or are having a difficult time answering it, but I see it is unanswered.
I can barely see one casting date I think on your tail housing of L 1 6.
I have casting dates on all three of the main components on my Saginaw of L 14 6    L 19 6   L 21 6  and then an assembly date of R7T27.
I believe yours was assembled in November and mine in December. I would like to know how far ahead of time yours was assembled in relationship to your body build date?
Also, I wish senior forum members would comment on your partial VIN. on your Saginaw as far as stamp authenticity. I'm sure their data base is full of stamps on aluminum cases in 67, but maybe your the first one to present them with a stamp on an iron case? Maybe that's why they did not answer your question?
My Saginaw does not have a partial VIN stamp.
Also, my transmission pictures can be seen in  general discussion under (possible find 67 L30/M20) near the end of thread. Thanks.

Jeff E.
