Can you help me
« on: June 13, 2007, 09:19:37 PM »
Hey guys!  I just bought a 69 Z28 and I wanted to see if you could help me out with something.  While having the Engine (number matching) worked on, I took photos of the transmission so that I could research to see if it was original.  The assembly date code reads as follows P9R10AE.  It's the E at the end that is throwing me off.  I'm not sure if that means it was an exchange???  What I can assume is the partial VIN also doesn't match anything on the car it reads 70Z140801.

If anyone could fill me in on this transmission or the coding I would appreciate it.

Someone will correct me if I'm wrong but the "E" stands for Eaton.

The vin is not right, it should start 19N------.  Never seen an E after the transmission date.

The "E" is discussed in this CRG thread:  http://www.camaros.org/forum/index.php?topic=1923.0

As for decoding the transmission, it's not the original one to your car.  It is a Muncie M20 4-speed transmission that was assembled on October 10, 1969 for a 1970 Chevelle or El Camino.     :)

The transmission stampings are not an original factory stamping.  Characters are not even close to what they should look like.  Someone has stamped this case.
