Collector's Car Insurance
« on: February 15, 2008, 08:57:35 PM »
I know there has been discussion on this before, but I just recieved my renewel and wanted some opinions on the price and coverage. The policy is with American Collectors Insuranse Inc.
Two cars with 300,000 liability and $300,000 uninsured motorist.
One car has a value of $51,500, the other $26,500, for collision and comprehensive.
The declaration page states "AGREED VALUE"
The premium is $413 per year. How does this measure up with the rest of the carriers?
    Thanks Pat

That sounds like it lines up pretty well with my Grundy Worldwide premium.

I've got $40k agreed for $294 annual.

In it's unfinished, yet running state, my '68 is $150 a year with Hagerty. That's an unconditional $14,000 payoff if it somehow gets totalled. The car is listed as modified; it would have been around $100 if it was stock. Of course, when it's finished I'll raise the value and the rate. The people at Hagerty are very nice and good to work with. My 2 cents.

My 68 Z28 is $895 year with an agreed value of 90K with Hagarty. They wanted lots of pictures and put my on the line with one of their "experts." He was very nice and polite and asked lots of questions, but I don't think he was a total expert. I knew more than him, and I know little compaired to some peolple on this web site.

But, overall, they were great to deal with and the process was pretty easy. I will insure my little girls 67 S Code Mustang (barn find) with them as well when I finish it.

Sometimes it's more than who's the cheapest. It matters a lot about who's gonna honor the policy if something goes wrong. I hang a round with a lot of muscleheads, most of who have Hagarty...not a complaint out of the bunch.

Good Luck and Rock On...

I'll agree with stick with one that will honor their policy.  Several years ago I was bumped in the rear by a Ford Expedition.  About $2k in damage.  I had an adjuster at my house in 3 days and a check in 10.  I'm sticking with Grundy.    Oh, and the car was repaired perfectly.

Two cars - 40K and 36K - similar coverage with Hagerty for $330 per year. You can a quick quote online for comparison purposes.
With Grundy make sure you check their practice of writing uninsured/underinsured coverage to and not exceeding a state's minimum limits. This can leave you with poor coverage.
