Underhood light
« on: February 20, 2007, 03:23:24 PM »
I am in the process of installing a new underdash harness in my 67, I have a underhood light that is spliced into and drawing power from the glove box light  I don't believe this is where it is suppose to be. Can anyone tell me the correct hook up for the hood light?
Also I know this is just a error on my part, I can't get the tach in the dash working. I had to have crossed a wire wrong smoewhere, But where?

Thanks

Dave

The factory (U26) underhood lamp drew its power directly from a screw terminal on the horn relay.

Dave,

Special foot note, the 1967 version of this lamp mount backwards compaired to the lamp used in 1968 and 1969.  The 67 lamp is wierd.

jerry jason from sd again.  i am going to buy the original rear end for my z tomorrow, is the vin stamped on it, how do i know if it is the actual rear axle that came in the car.  the guy says it has 4.88 gears thats why he took it out and replaced it with the one in the car now.

Check this section of the site for the axle "numbers", where they are, and what they mean:

      http://www.camaros.org/numbers.shtml#RearAxleNumbers

The car's VIN was not stamped on the axle - only on the engine and transmission.

Take photos and e-mail them to me.  Should be dated a little before the BD of the car.  If its a factory 4.88, the date will be a little earlier than normal because of this rare ratio.

SD:

What year is your z? The RPO file listed on the site does not show any 4:88 axles sold in 68 or 69.  :-\

BX is the code for 4.88.  I have two 1968 Z28s with factory 4.88's.  Cars were built in 1968 with 4.56s and 4.88s.  In 1969, 4.10 was the lowest ratio available unless you knew about the copo ordering codes.

jerry, jason here. picked up rear axle to day not 4.88 axle BU0425G1 looks to be 373.   inside ring and pinion is part number GM3862528  8.39  dated 12 68.   so that is not original.  he told me he was drag racing car in early years put this in shortly after he got car.  when he removed the engine he also took out the diff. and installed the 69 diff that you inspected, for better drivability.  i will send you pics for varification when i get someone out here smart enough to run a computer.  do you want the sent directly to your e-mail address?

another note. the mounting bracket for the 67 lamp is different than what is currently available. It only has one screw holding it to the hood    Bill
