70 ls6 camaro in muscle car review
« on: January 08, 2008, 03:19:34 AM »
I guess they made one car (vin#1) as a LS6. Smokey Yunick had it and it was 'supposed to be crushed' per GM. A nice read if you pick up the magazine. They called it a pilot prototype. FYI.
Black 69L78. 4:10, RS/SS/ZL2, 'black painted tail panel different than body','red hockey stripe w/ v-top exception'
Blue 68Z28. 4:10, Kustom 'tunnel tube' headers, Nickey sold.

I call it BS. No docs to prove any of it.

These guys have been promoting this car for years. I will bet it will soon be for sale.

There is extensive discussion of it at http://www.nastyz28.com/forum/index.php.  The owners certainly don't give the impression that they are promoting it to sell but anything is possible.  I will be curious to see if your prediction pans out as I hadn't considered it until you mentioned it.

The Camaro Corral did a feature on it when found at the Yunick auction. At that time it was a hulk with a 6 cylinder VIN and no drivetrain.

How convenient that this car and the alleged '68 Z/28 Hemi 302 surface after Yunicks' passing.

I regret posting this here now, I forgot this is a first gen camaro site only. I like L78 cars and got caught up with that neat article on the 70, now I wonder if it is really real when you think about it, the only aspect for sure is its VIN#1. With no pictures or no docs of it back in the day as a LS6, it is speculation. sorry, newbie error.

I have no dog in this fight, nor have I seen the article referred to about the alledged 70 LS6 Camaro.  I do see that several pages in my 70 Camaro assembly manual are dedicated to RPO LS6.  There must have been some activity concerning this option?

Yes they must have considered it. There are also pages in the '67 AIM dedicated to the tri-power 350. JL-8 is in the '68 AIM.

Lots of concept stuff does not make production.
