The shifter in the photo is an aftermarket Hurst Competition-Plus; the OEM Hurst shifter didn't have the shift lever stop bolts. There should be no spatter paint on the taillight housings - they were installed after paint, in the Trim Shop. Photos below are of an unmolested original Z/28; the taillight housings were slush-molded plastic, and had numerous inclusions which can be mistaken for paint particles.

Im going to go visit the prior owner from the mid 80's this week...maybe he can help...I just have to find my original block...and then I'll have my proof positive!!!

Did 69 Z-28's come with M-20's  ?? Is it rare??  thanks alot!!!

Thanks for the tag pic!
Yes, it looks like M20. Yes, that doesn't help to narrow it down.
Assuming the fuel line is original (looks it), then the car was either a Z or a L78.

The same tailpanel holes are used by all emblems.

ok....so I was convinced that the rear for my LA Z was not original due to the cast date being in 69 and the car being an early car....so today I was gonna take some pics and list the rear on Ebay for sale....BUUTTTT...when i cleaned up the cast number a little better, it looks like it is a 68 date code...what do you guys think?? I will check the gears this week for a date, will that tell me anything???  Also Kurt, does this rear cast date make sense with the car date???   Thanks again CRG!!   especially Kurt  :)

Still about a month earlier than I'd expect, but it looks like it's the oddball, and original to the car.  Congrats.
