Front windshield moulding clips
« on: May 28, 2007, 06:47:18 PM »
I was cursing down the highway yesterday when all of a sudden, the right side windshield mldg and the center of the top windshield mldg came lose. I pulled off the side of the road and snapped the mldgs back onto the clips. I notice that the top piece where it came lose appeared not to secure the mldg correctly. There was a gap betweent the glass and the mldg causing wind to get under the mldg and possibly cause it to work its' way lose. The passenger side mldg layed flush with the glass but did not feel real secure. Questions??????? ???
Can the clips be positioned wrong or worn? Can they be bent or reposition without removing the front glass? Or,,,,,,,, can the bad clips be removed and replaced with new ones again without removing the front glass?

the clips can be removed without removing the glass, as long as the studs that hold them are not rusted out.
good luck

I have been told that there are different molding clips for a vinyl top car and a painted top car. The windshield molding trims peices on my car are loose and I was told it was because the vinyl top was removed but the clips were not replaced with the non-vinyl top type. Don't know if this is true or not.

I removed the upper and right side mouldings and removed 5 clips that appeared to be bent in the wrong direction. Bent them back into place and re-installed the moulding. Fit is much better and tighter! Thanks for the help.
Old man:
I have also heard that there are possibily different clips for a Vinyl roof and a painted roof but I have never seen them either. None of the restorartion companies I have used,( D&R, Ricks) list different sets. There are different clips for the upper, lower and sides of the front windsheild though. This may be another item to add to the "winter project" list. And the beat goes on!!!!
