November 66 built Van Nuys SS nose stripe
« on: November 02, 2024, 06:00:48 AM »
I'm looking for pictures of original cars with the SS bumblebee nose stripe from an early built Van Nuys Camaro. My concern is the portion located below the SS emblems and how far the stripe extends? I realize the AIM shows the stripe going quite far maybe to the lower valance panel. It seems the stripe may have changed over time with production or between the two assembly plants.

I did hear from someone privately who said a Jim Walston owned an early original paint Van Nuys car. But my efforts to reach him have been unsuccessful. Surely this amazing site must have at least a few pictures of the stripe on an early built LA car?

Post pics of your stripe. There are several people who can determine original paint on cars. It’s much easier in person but good pics often can be used to determine that.

Byron, I'm in the process of painting my car. All front end sheet metal was NOS but in primer so I'm looking to replicate from an original car. I'm using the Stencils and Stripes kit and from looking at many many cars feel confident on the location and dimensions above the emblems, but unsure how far the stripe extends below the emblems on an early Van Nuys car. My fear is painting the stripe incorrectly, as so many repainted cars have been done in the past.

This was said to be a survivor 10B LOS car.  I'll see if I have other survivor photos

I can't say for sure that this was a LOS car, but it was located somewhere out west.  It has the grille emblem of an early L48

Link to a claimed survivor (paint), appears to be last tagged in AZ so possibly a LOS car.

Thank you GMAD and Pete. The Bring A Trailer car was mine for sale and was original paint mostly and it was a Van Nuys car but it was a January 67 built car and I have a strong feeling part of the stripe was at some point altered over time. Pete that red car is exactly what I'm looking for. Looks very original paint and stripe looks correct. I'm wondering if the stripe goes all the way to the bottom of the fender per the AIM? I'd love to see more of this car.
Although I'm located where nobody will know the difference, it matters to me to have it as correct as I can.

Thank you Kurt. Those pictures look the same as the 10B LOS car, so that is what I will go with. Appreciate everyone's help. I would have been upset if it got painted incorrectly.
