Harrison AC Evaporator Box Decal
« on: December 22, 2006, 03:15:10 PM »
I know I've read somewhere that the Harrison decal mounted vertically on the evaporator box.  Does anyone have a picture of an original or can you tell me exactly where (and how) it goes?

Appreciate the help!

Philip:

My 69 RS does not have AC, however, my '66 Chevelle does.  I took some pics of the evaporator box a few years ago during the front end restoration of the Chevelle.  I believe at least one of those pics shows the Harrison tag.  When I get home this afternoon, I'll look at those pics (pre digital era) and I'll scan and post what I have that might be of use to you.  I would assume that Harrison put the decal in the same place regardless of what car the evaporator box went in.

.....and have a Merry Christmas

Pics of Harrison tag, as found, on my Chevelle.  The first picture shows the decal/tag mounted on the top of the evaporator box.  The tag (which is as found) is completely hidden from view by the RH fender, at least on the Chevelle, where essentially only the ac lines from the last bend out are visible.

That does not look "vertical", does it?  Oh well...
Thanks! Richard.  And Merry Christmas to you!

Phillip:

Week ago Saturday, I was looking for a few items in a local salvage yard.  I noticed a '72 Buick Skylark that had AC.  The evaporator core box was clearly visible with the Harrison tag mounted vertically on the engine compratment side of the exposed part of the evaporator box.

So it looks like Harrison may have placed these things in various locations.  Now, if someone had a pic of a 1st Gen Camaro evap box with the Harrison tag..........

Richard,
I appreciate your keeping an eye out for me.  I'm going to be at big shows in April and May and plan to see what I can eyeball there.  Problem is originality...
Yes, I'd like to see such a picture...
I think you are right.  I think you might find them in various places.  I still think it should be mounted vertically, however, on the Camaro (like on that Skylark.)
I've got the decal, but I'm still waiting on verification of location.
BTW, the decal looks great. But if its like most of the repo stuff (poor quality glue) and I mount it vertically (without a little glue "reenforcement"), it will probably fall off on the first warm day I drive it.  Oh well...

Well, for what it is worth, I'm going with the vertical mounting of the decal.  I've checked out a dozen AC cars from that era (since my last post) and that seems to be the consensus.

BTW, this is not my car.  It's an example of highly documented and often judged car, the owner of which I truly appreciate his opionion.

Wow!  Look at the reflection of the heater control valve on the inner fender (wheelhouse).  My paint work is not that nice on the outside of the car.

Know what you mean... I actually asked him if he had some parts powder coated.  He said no.  But you need to know that car has been trailered for the last ten years.

That's really sad, like a caged animal in a zoo.  Cars are transportation and should be driven!  Just my two cents.

Actually, Paul, this guy has several cars from the 60s and 70s that he does drive.  That car is his main show car.  In another year or so, he will fully restore one of the others, win more awards, and drive that car.  That way he participates in all avenues of the hobby (including judging).  For most of the rest of us the real problem is the cash for the car... the trailer... the parts... restoration prices...

Jimmy, thanks for the picture.  The color of the evaporator is interesting.  Is that just the picture or is it close to that color.  Also, (although I think I know), which way is up in that picture?

It may be the color of the pic; It is sitting on top of a white freezer; typ freezer white so that may help for color reference. I've posted another pic of entire unit for a better look.
