OER Steering wheel hub horn button activation
« on: April 19, 2024, 08:37:39 PM »
Good Morning from Australia

Seeking a bit of help with how the horn button on this OER steering wheel hub will activate the horn.

It looks like the horn button when fitted will have no movement to activate the horn on and off.

Am I missing something? Is this the only kit or is there another one that you would recommend so I can activate the horn.

Thanks

Ted

I looked at the OER kit below and it appears that you are missing the pink plastic spacer:

Thankyou GMAD. I might get in touch with the OER people to see if that one will also suit the woodgrain wheel.

I did see a comment about someone installing an OER steering wheel on their Camaro and having a problem with the horn.  The installation kit looks like the one you have:

Thanks GMAD. Yes that looks like the same Kit.

Yes, Camaronut, it's for a 67.

Thanks all for your help. I'm going to email OER and see what they recommend. The horn kit seems poorly designed when compared to what I've seen and used for other classic cars.

Ted -I've pulled the steering wheel on my 1979 Trans Am to replace the ignition switch and didn't have a problem, but had a lot of problems when I replaced the steering wheel on my 1970 Mustang, which was not the original.  A prior owner installed a 13 1/2 inch diameter steering wheel as he drag-raced the car, but with manual quick steering, it was difficult to drive the Mustang on the street.  I bought a Grant 15 inch wheel, but I had to take it off numerous times to get the horn and turn signals to work properly.  Good luck! - Mark

Thanks Mark. I'll probably be taking it on and off a few times to get it to work also.
Will post up when I have a solution.  :)
