69 ssrs 396 w ac front springs
« on: July 18, 2023, 04:45:37 AM »
Sure this has been asked and answered many times but can’t seem to locate what I need.
Would like to put in new front coil springs. Afraid that whatever I order will make the car look like a lift kit was installed. Has anyone with a similar car bought aftermarket springs that were the correct dimension and strength to give the correct height? According to the charts a 69 camaro 396 HA, HB and HG spring was the same part number. 181 lbs and up. Why give it different I D numbers?
Thx in advance
Dean

Do you still have the tags from the old springs? ...Joe

charts are for service, not assembly line.  Best guess explanation I can come up with.  No need to stock all those springs. Close enough was good enough.

Eaton Detroit is who I would call.

No tags left on springs.
Guess I’m trying to find the right aftermarket spring to get the correct ride height. There only seem to be bb or sb springs. Some say with ac. Hard to believe The bb with ac spring would be a perfect solution. Anyone here with a bb and ac that have purchased aftermarket spring that looks great? If so what company?
Also, do bb springs have more coils or just stiffer? If they have more coils what are the length of each?
Thx

http://www.camaros.org/suspen.shtml#spring shows three different springs and part numbers for HA, HB, and HG.

I've been old that several folks use Napa 277-1154 big block front springs but does not include A/C.  You can compare spring rates etc and make a decision.

I'm curious if a 68 spring would be any different than a 69?

I used a 638 tagged spring. I can't recall where I got them from, but Moog has a cs638.
