1968 Camaro Small Block Header Fitment
« on: May 05, 2023, 11:42:40 AM »
Looking to find out what ceramic or stainless steel headers for a bone stock 68 Camaro fit the best. I'm having trouble with Doug's D308 that fit all Chevy Camaro,Nova,Chevelle,Monte Carlo and Impala small blocks. Crummy fit for the LH header hitting the floor and not centered. Any members out there with good reviews on a set of 1 5/8" or 1 3/4" headers that fit and are centered in the trans cross member? My car has a Muncie 4 spd with factory PS.
Thanks

Hey jim 68, I got a complete chambered only Stainless Steel set for 69’ SB. ORDERED for a 69’ BB. WILL sell, can’t use them. Aluminized Steel head pipes to tail pipes. Again the Chambered parts is Stainless Steel, and whole system is OD 2”.  If interesred you can icon R. DuWayne Ladner on FB, many Camaro groups I’m on. Thanks.

I had Hooker Super Comps 1-3/4" That fit fairly well.  Needed a dimple near the steering box.  I ran them for a short time then went to stock cast iron manifolds and chambered pipes.

I don't have a recommendation, but I can tell you that you are not the first having this problem with the Doug's 308. Same thing happened with me. The passenger side header fit perfectly. The collector flange of the driver's side header hit the floor pan before you could line up the back header bolt with the hole in the head.

I had a deadline to get this car up and running and did not have the time to return them and try another brand.

I had to grind down the top of the collector flange and then elongate five of the six flange bolt holes to get the header to drop down far enough to clear the floor pan. A royal PIA!

Good luck in your search!

My worthless two cents...
One would think acquiring headers for a small block Chevy is a fairly simple, and easy to do job. I guess with so many brands out there the choice is unlimited...or it used to be(?).
Just another T/A fanatic. Current lifelong projects:

Yeah, it used to be so simple....beat to fit, paint to match and drive hard with a big smile.
