When the rear was painted the brakes were completely installed so the wheel cylinders, parking brake cables, plastic breather, fill plug ,and brakelines all got painted black at the same time ? Maybe Lloyd has more photos from MCACN ? Thanks

The rear axle was painted after assembly at the Gear & Axle plant. The pinion flange and collar was masked. Appears all braking components were assembled as wheel cylinders and hardware were painted. The parking brake cables were not painted but may have some overspray at the backing plate. The circumference of the brake drums was painted with lighter coverage on the face. Axle ends usually show paint. All brake lines and hardware were assembled at the assembly plants and did not have paint. The vent is not shown in the AIM and must have been installed at the axle plant.
Does not apply to Firebird rear axles, which were assembled by Pontiac and not painted. They may have received some coating along the bottom at the assembly plants.

It almost looks like the Leaf spring straps (Wrapping) were a dark color also?

There may have been some differences by plant and year.
CRG has some Van Nuys assembly plant photos from 1967 that seem to show the leaf springs as raw steel.

What is the type of plating if any on the bracket that holds the brake hose to the cover? Was it on the cover before the brakelines were installed and painted black with the rear or attached to the hose when it was installed ?not sure

^Depends on Year, I think. The 69 uses a bent wire support that is natural or black & the 67/68 uses a stamped steel support that I thought was semi-gloss painted or dipped.
