cast date verse build date 1969 Z10
« on: February 09, 2023, 09:12:11 PM »
I am sure this question has been asked hundreds of times. I have a 69 Z10 build date 04C , and I have found a block dated D 18 69. Is that too close? Looking for input.
Thanks

What is stamped on the pad? What's your VIN?

I'll send the VIN to you direct. My Dad purchased this Z10 in 1972 less engine and trans as it had been raced. He put a 327 and 4-speed in it, and it became My Mom's driver for about the next 10 years. It has been in storage and only driven a few times in the last 40 years. I am looking to put a correct engine back in it, and have the dated coded block mentioned above. But I'm questioning if the dates are too close, and should be looking for an earlier date.

Cast dates aren't very relevant, the engine assembly date matters more. But it sounds like there's nothing on the pad.
That engine date is possible with your VIN, your car was built about 7 days later  - tight but possible.

There are numbers on it, but I don't recall what they are off the top of my head, it is just a short block I picked up a few years ago. It is not from a Camaro, my intent was to deck it and leave it blank, not restamp it. I just want a date code that would be correct for the car. I have a couple earlier engines available that I could use if needed.
