At the weekly cruise night in El Cajon, Ca….tonight was Camaro night on the Promenade. Yes, that green 69 RS has a custom cloth green top and YES, that is custom made green houndstooth interior.

The black 68 won best of something. The owner emphatically states “Any engine in the Camaro can be ordered with the SS package”. I agreed to disagree, because I’m just hanging out for fun. He told me to do my homework and I just smiled and walked away. Some 4 year old kid was having the time of his life because I let him roll the back window up and down as much as he wanted. He also liked folding the driver seat forward and pulling it back.

you can check the Camaro options codes to check if SS options and 6-cylinder engines were available, but over the years I've seen a 'few' 6-cylinder Chevys with SS trim.   Hemmings reported on a '63 Impala Convertible with 6-cyl 230 ci engine.

Just plain ignorant.

Standard Camaro SS engine '67-'69 was the L48 350. Three 396 engine options were available.

Also, I believe '63-'67 Nova SS; '64-'65 Chevelle SS. Standard 6-cylinder engine unless something else was ordered.

Some people just know everything, and I let them believe it.

I had a friend that had a 64 Chevy II SS with an original 6 cylinder. I want to think it was a straight drive not sure which though.

I also had a mechanic tell me back in '86 my '68 was a fake. He said that you couldn't get a RS-SS together. I about bit my tongue off to keep from speaking out and calling him a moron...
