Any Info on Car 124679L512227?
« on: April 26, 2022, 04:03:57 AM »
My father has this 1969 Camaro he has had for 28 years. Early history is unknown. He bought it from an older gentleman in 1994 who said he bought the car from two hotshot teens whose dad raced and wrecked the car in the driver's front fender slightly bending the frame. When my father purchased the car which was black with a black interior and a black convertible top with Z23 woodgrain and no U17 gauge pack, Originally Lemans Blue with special order black convertible and black D-90 SS Stripes and SS package. originally had the L48 SS350 engine with a (TH350?) automatic. The car was last purchased with a 3970014 engine block date coded with D-10-73. Came out of a wrecked 1973 corvette and was installed in the mid-'70s or early '80s. Full mechanical overhaul in the process. Came with Rally Wheels.

Other than what the Chevy Muscle Docs may suggest, does anyone have any parts, photos, documentation (PoP, bill of sale)? or history of the car? might you recognize the vin? All replies and questions further are acceptable.

0014 block from a 73 Corvette is a Tonawanda block machined at Flint which is kinda rare... my brother's 73 L82 Corvette has that block. The blocks from the different foundries were exchanged a few times throughout the years and machined by the other in order to ensure interoperability between the foundries and machining operations.

Many Van Nuys built cars have a Body Broadcast Copy [BBC] stuck to the top of the fuel tank. Has to have its OE fuel tank, often painted black in production. Sometimes visible from behind the left rear wheel. May be there even if not visible. If it is there, don't touch it. Remove the fuel tank and very carefully remove it as it will be weathered and very fragile.

How about a pic of the body tag?

Almost every part of that car has been changed. It only has original seat belts, ps pump, glass, and rear body panels. that is it. It did not retain any documents when it was taken apart. The only thing we can verify is blue paint on the original hood, and when it was rotisserie restored, the inner trunk lid had Leman blue paint. Which lines up with the following

I don't currently have a photo. But from a note I made of the body tag, it says this Lemans Blue, Black (Convertible 12467) Top, 71 Paint code with Black Stripes, Jan 14-21 body build date by fisher. 711 Interior.

Oh, yea! I saw somewhere that only 450 were stamped D-10-73 (April 10, 1973) which was the first day in that production run. But over the years, my dad wanted to be a hotshot, and people offering up through the '90s constantly upgraded and rebuilt that motor. It was changed and rebuilt like 12 times. in 2007, it was stroked to a 383. But 6 months ago, we realized the bores had become ovals. So we slapped it together and made $5,000 off of it as a crate motor. The guy said he was gonna sleeve it and put like 750 hp to it. There isn't much worth in doing much else to it anyway, because of how wore that block got from street driving parts that were race parts but detuned. It was so bad that it constantly would get oil into the cylinders because the rings couldn't seal around the bore and it would run on after the key was off (Clunk clunk clunk)

Something to mention about the car's history, it is and was in South Carolina at purchase and pre-purchase in 1994. It was in not good condition. The 0014 Corvette Block was stock. It had a 10 bolt.
