I'm looking for information on the original paint on my 69 Sport Coupe. I bought this car in the early '80s and, in my youth, began modifying it immediately, including a new paint job/striping. Now, I have decided to restore it to as close to factory original as I can get. I have been able to identify the paint and striping options thanks for the excellent resources available through CRG and my reference manuals. But I cannot find an example of the hood anywhere.
The car was purchased from a high school classmate around 1980 or 1981 (I graduated in 1979). I believe the paint to have been factory original when I got it. The only modification she made was to put wide chrome reverse wheels on it. The car was a '69 Sport Coupe, born in early October of '68, with the LM1/Powerglide option. It was Garnet Red with a white vinyl top, white D91 and D96 stripes and red interior. I do not have any pictures of the original paint except, for one picture of my Dad, which shows the very nose of the car, confirming the D91 stripe. I had it repainted Garnet Red with black stripes and put Z/28 hood (non-functioning) and spoilers on the car and left the vinyl top off.
But, the original hood (which I still have, unmolested) has four white pinstripes running front to back. These stripes are paint and seem to match the style of the D96 stripes that were on the fenders (except they are single, not dual strips). I've looked at hundreds of cars online and in books and cannot find a standard hood anywhere with pinstripes or any references to these in the factory assembly manual. They appear to have been painted first (lower) than the overall paint coat.
What do I have here? Any ideas? Thanks in advance!
