Circuit Mont-Tremblant: 1969 Camaro RS/SS Z11 Conv. Pace Car for SCCA F5000 1969

A 1969 Camaro RS/SS Z11 convertible was used as the pace car for the SCCA F5000/Continental Championship race held at Circuit Mont-Tremblant, St. Jovite, Québec, Canada on Sunday, September 7, 1969.  This is more than likely the same Camaro used previously at the track to pace the earlier 1969 Can-Am and Trans Am events.  David Hobbs would win the event in his Chevy powered Surtees TS5.

In this first image you can see the Camaro with its convertible top raised parked behind the pit lane fence.  It is just to the left of the end of the rear wing on David Hobbs Surtees TS5 Chevrolet which is parked on the grid prior to the race.

Here is an image of the Camaro leading the F5000 race cars on the pace lap.  You can see that the decals on the doors have been altered.  They have removed the reference to the Indianapolis 500 and moved the "OFFICIAL PACE CAR" section to the bottom of the door.  The emblem of the track has been placed on the upper part of the door.  Compare with the image taken from the official souvenir program.

The Camaro appeared multiple times in the movie entitled The Racing Scene, which is a 1969 documentary film about actor James Garner and the exploits of his auto racing team during the entire 1969 racing season. 

I'm not totally sure, but the third image seems to show a row of convertibles with their tops in the up position on the hill behind James Garner.  These might be the cars that were used to chauffeur the drivers around the track prior to the race.  It looks like a few Camaros were involved.  The fourth picture shows one of these drivers parades at the track but I'm not sure just which event it was taken at.

Here is an image taken from The Racing Scene that shows James Garner and some of his team members getting into a 1969 Camaro rental car before heading to Sebring International Raceway on Saturday, March 22, 1969 to race at the 12 Hours of Sebring.  It can be seen at 32:29 in the film.
