PF25 or 29 oil filter for 68

Just saw this on ePay and was wondering if there's any truth to it?

According to my 1968 dated GM parts book,a PF29 or 6437946 is the first spin on

oil filter for all 68 models Impala Nova corvette chevelle camaro with V8 engines

327 396 427.  Pf 25 came out in 1969 so would NOT be correct.

The PF-29 was the first spin on filter and was used until early (January or February) 1969. After that, the PF-25 came into production.

What did you see on ebay?

Yep that's the listing I saw.  So my 12D came with a 29 from the factory???  I always thought the 25 was correct...but had to have the embossing on the bottom for 68.  Now being corrected, what years was the embossing on a 25 "factory correct"?  Learn something new every day...

according to the NCRS - Embossing is correct on a PF25 up through the first few months of the year 1970, not model year, actual year.  After that the PF25 without embossing BUT with the larger sized circle (half dollar/silver dollar sized) on the bottom of the filter can, the reproductions have a DIME sized circle on the bottom of the filter.

I agree James as I use ncrs info a lot being a member! I believe ncrs does accept either embossed or not as they have had some exceptions to the norm. I used an extensive report in 2010 that clearly showed the pf29 being used in 68.

The NCRS has still not come around on the black AC logo on the oil filter...
They acknowledge the 1100 mile 1970 Camaro Z28 charlie had and it's oil filter however they do not accept anything other than the white filter with the blue and red AC logo for full points in judging.

Interesting. There is a larger body of evidence from other ultra low mileage cars and filter take-offs to support the use of the black on white assembly line PF oil filters.

Lloyd, a head corvette judge told me a few years back that he believes the plain AC filter came from the factory but overall as a NCRS group they have not had enough of a sample to be able to substantially state and place that in their respective judging guide books.
