LOS assembly line question
« on: March 25, 2007, 03:20:35 PM »
Here is the question, were camaros and fullsize chevrolet assembled on the same assembly line at the Los Angeles plant.  So, there could be a 67 impala 4dr followed by a 67 camaro conv. followed by a 67 impala ss 2dr.
I was looking at a assembly line photo of a 67 impala and it looks like there is a 67 camaro in line behind it with the body about to be lowered on to the frame.

Does someone have an assembly line photo archive?

Yes - assembly plants only have one main line, and in multi-car-line plants like Van Nuys, everything comes down the same line. Photo below is the Van Nuys Final Line - "B"-bodies in front of and behind the Camaro, and a Camaro is visible in the background on the previous pass.

Cool photo John!  You have to write a book and fill it with these historic photos.   :)

There aren't a lot of Norwood or Van Nuys assembly plant photos out there - I grab them wherever I can find them.  :)

JohnZ:

Great pictures!!! reminds me of the Assembly lines for American Motors (anyone remember them?). The Matador and Ambassador which were assembled in Milwaukee and then trucked to Kenosha to have final assembly done in regards to Engine,Trans, etc. The Gremlin,Spirit, Javelin and Pacer (how about that one!) were all assembled on a different line. Options were the key on how they were sequenced down the line.
