Zinc Anode Clips

The 1969 Fisher Body Service Manual indicates that sacrificial zinc anode clips were originally installed in the rear window channels on Camaros (not convertibles). See Section 17, pages 5 and 6. In my work, we employ catholic protection on major highway bridges to reduce internal steel corrosion, so I am familiar with the concept. However, I cannot see that the anode clips would be very effective in this Camaro application. Cannot think of one owner who has routinely replaced clips as they corrode, nor anyone who has installed them during restoration. Anyone know otherwise?

Well I guess that answers the question, nobody uses them when doing a restoration.

Do not have a 69 Body Service Manual but I sure would like to see a picture of a zinc anode clip. Are they regular production clips that are zinc plated? If that is the case then there should be a part number for then for service replacement. If not, then they never made it into production.

Bob, the Fisher Body manual calls up part group, not part number, for replacement clips; Group 10.096
It also says in Note 2, page 17-6, "Both zinc anode clips and alternate replacement self-sealing screws are available as service parts."
Fisher references may be different to GM reference numbers though.

I think many guys take such good care of their cars they do not look into preventive maitance items like the clips you mentioned. I am also familiar with anode rods, (I worked in the water heater bussiness and engineering for a while). I remember years ago you could get a radiator cap with a anode bulb attached to it. I doubt they sold many, I think guys just stop filling up the radiators with hard water. So I doubt enough guys are driving in inclement weather where those clips would be beneficial .

 If I do the restoration it will be interesting to see if the original clip is intact. I suspect it may be being the car has spent most of its life garaged and off road. I bought them just to have in case....

Mike thanks for posting those new pictures. Can I ask where you sourced them? Parts vendors I have asked in the past have no clue what I'm describing......
I definitely want to include these when I get to putting glass back in, the car will be driven regardless of weather, and live in an unheated garage. Hence the original question (but scary how much time seems to have passed since starting this!).

But, I went back to the site today to check if there were more and see they raised the price from $5 to $45 each!
They also raised the prices for the hood bumper from $* to $45 each too being only 2 are left in stock! That's nasty. I'm glad bought them when I did.
  Do you know where these are located under the rear molding? I'll check my coupe and see if it is intact. If so then I'll part with one (I bought 2)  I'm curious why they weren't used on the front windshield....or were they?

Mike I couldn't find any in the rear channel of my car, but as it sat outside from the mid-70's until I bought it decades later, no surprise the anode had done it's job and nothing remained. I'll have to recheck the original reference I made to the Fisher Body Manual to see if it describes the clip location (re-reading that post now, I see a typo - should say 'cathodic' protection!).

I just got them as part of the project in a bag.

Just checked the 1969 Fisher Body Manual, and like the extract Jim posted above, it states F-bodies (except '46' styles, which makes sense since 'verts had no steel window channel) had 4 anode clips in the back window, 2 per side. There is also a picture of a clip which looks like the last picture Jim added...... The GM part number is the same as for yours, but they appear quite different. The oldsobsolete site states usage includes 1967 and 1968 Camaro, maybe it changed for 1969 but kept the same part number?
