1108741 Alternator 8A23 ??
« on: August 03, 2019, 02:33:56 PM »
Does anyone know what this alternator was used on?

It's on my parts shelf (been there for many 25? year or more) and I have no idea what I removed it from.

No, but I'm assuming it's a 10SI? 1108xxx with a 8A23 date is probably 1978?

I think it's a '68 (37A), but I'm not certain... ??

Looks like a 10DN,  but that part number doesn't fit the standard 1968 format. Are you sure about that number?

The alternator still has the bracket attached, and was a little difficult to read in my shop, so I took pains to read it and added the tape label so I'd know ... but maybe I need to take a little *more pain* and make sure..  remove the bracket...   What's wrong with the format?   Maybe that was my 'personal notation' on the date as I like to use Yr/Mo/Day sequence... (dates back to my military training).. :)   Also I think all my loose alternators laying around use the same 'date' format'...   if that's what you were referencing?

Or maybe it's 1100741 ??

Most 1968 alternators start with 1100xxx format. There's another one that's 1117777, but that's a 62 amp alternator. The 1100741 you referenced is from a 1966 Pontiac Tempest with a 6 banger, A/C, power steering and transistorized ignition, so unfortunately, it's not that. If it were, you'd have gold, no wait, PLATINUM, on your hands!! Those are about as rare as you can get.

Based on that information, I guess I have to go over to my shop and remove the bracket and check that unit again...  :)

Ed:  Do you have a manual showing Delco alternator numbers?   and the 1108741 doesn't show up?

Well...   No gold or platinum for me!  :)    I went to the shop and retreived it, removed the  bracket and cleaned the stamped area..  It's a   1100761    8H23      37A      so I missed 3 different numbers trying to read under that bracket!  An ebay seller has one of these advertised stating it's for

1967 1968 PONTIAC FIREBIRD DELCO REMY 1100761 ALTERNATOR 37 AMP 250 CU. IN.

This one I have is late enough to be for a '69 if the '69 Firebirds used the same number on their six cylinders.. and possibly Chevy 250's used the same alternator?

No, but I have both the Hollander and Glenn Mitchell interchange manuals. Both show the 1100761 as a 37 amp alternator used on the 1967-1970 Buick Special, 1967-1969 Pontiac Firebird (6 cylinder except a/c and power steering), 1966 Pontiac Tempest 6 cylinder (except with a/c, power steering or transistorized ignition) and the 1967-1969 Pontiac Tempest 6 cylinder (except a/c and power steering). No Chevrolet application and not worth much.
