How to tell if it's a real OEM bumper?
« on: April 23, 2019, 11:44:50 PM »
I found a front bumper for a 1969 on Craigslist...
Seller claims it's OEM... How can I verify that statement?
 Any stampings to look for?

 Thanks.

I have only seen either an etching or a stamped numbers/letters on reproduction bumpers on the inside.  I've never seen any identification on originals or NOS bumpers.

original bumper will have a unfinished look on inside, even if a original bumper Is re-chromed it will still have a rougher texture on the inside.....repo bumpers are lighter weight and smother on the inside. At least this has been my experience on ones that I compared.

agreed on the weight. I have one I feel sure is real. I need to weigh it and post it unless someone has already.

One identification means for a over the counter GM  parts is a little blue-white black part number tag.

When I "DETAILED" my grill area and front lower valance I took the bumper off and found a sticky tag  applied to the inside of the bumper which made sense since my car hit a telephone pole and damaged the front end in 1979 by a previous owners girl friend.

I have an original rear bumper that was removed my the previous owner because it needed to be rechromed.  The license plate light is still installed.  The rivets have a torx imprint.  Is this original?
