I have what I believe are 2 GM grilles. One has an extra thick eggcrate wall where the hood latch lever goes. The other does not. Any idea which is right?

Here is the "doubled" up area. One grille has this and one does not. Has anyone seen this?

I don't recall ever seeing that, and my original 02D '69 doesn't have it.

I don't have that on mine, but may not be a good reference as a previous owner replaced entire front clip after a crash. He tells me though all parts came from the salvage yard.

It does not appear to be glued on either.
