A local has some parts for sale. Looks like a 67 327 pretty complete code HC, cast 3903352. Has double humps and quadrajet. Anybody know for sure what it is before I waste time going to look?

With a casting number of 3903352, it's a 1967 full size car L30/M35 (327/275).

67 275 sounds right. Double hump heads, quadrajet, not 68 because solid valve covers and oil filter canister. Might go look to put in the parts shed. It would be good for someone fixing a pre 68 car.

It's not that the site is wrong (although it's not the best for information), it's that you have to also look at the casting number and dates to determine which engine it is. The more clues the better.

The L30 engine is a GREAT engine. I have one in my 57 Chevy. Actually, mine started out as a 68 LF7 (same bottom end, just different heads), and I changed the heads to the 3782461 (1.94's) and installed the L79 cam (327/350), and that REALLY woke it up!

IIRC, the '67 327 was the last one with small journal crank and the '68 had the larger journals.   Most often the smalljournal cranks will be forged, whereas the large journal 327 cranks are generally cast.   If my memory is failing me, I'm certain someone here will correct me....   :)

personally, I'd take the '67 engine over the '68 given a choice.

I have had a 275 horse engine before. Strong engine. This one with the vent in the back of the block will allow someone to run correct style valve covers. The 67 down blocks are getting a little scarce. It looks complete less distributer and comes with an unknown 283. If he will take the right price I will just store them in my swap meet stuff.

That's correct. All 63-67 327 cranks were forged. In 1968, only the 327/325 and 327/350 engines got the forged crank. In 1969, those engines weren't available so all 327 cranks were cast, unless it was a 1969 or later warranty replacement 327/325, 327/350, 327/365 or 327/375. In those cases, it was forged.
