Renewed thoughts of indoor activities with colder days fast approaching...
Few things as a kid in the 60's and 70's were / are cooler and more fun
than H.O. Slot Car Racing and / or H.O. Trains, imho.
The original and 1st Aurora HO Vibrator Slot Car Sets were available for Christmas 1959-60.
Although the Derek Brand designed Original Aurora Vibrator H.O. Slot Car worked,
his 2nd chassis design, the Aurora ThunderJet with it's revolutionary "Pancake Motor",
became the "iconic" H.O. Slot Car and a version of it is still produced and sold today by AutoWorld.
Aurora Slot Car Sets had some wonderful dream inspiring period Box Art.
The "Wild Ones" Aurora Set pictured below is considered by some as one of the best.
Have been fortunate to still have some from childhood, picture is current layout.
Would imagine there are many others who also still enjoy this childhood pastime.

OMG, what a blast from the past! Was heavy into slot cars as a kid. I think at 8,I figured out putting a little bend in the contacs, and keeping them tarnish free would give me an edge when my friends and I put our favorite cars up for competition. Hours we spent racing. Every one of us had a laid out track in the basement. Now I watch the grand kids play with modern versions.

And pulling the little springs to increase the tension. I really wish I would have kept that stuff, gave it all to the little neighbor kid when I hit teens.

We had a huge HO slot car and train set-up when I was a kid.  Still have the HO slot car stuff but not the trains.  Also have 1/32 Revell slot cars.  Hobby stores with slot car tracks in them were very popular back in the day. There were guys who were very competitive and rewound their motors for faster acceleration. You had zero chance running a stock slot car against something like that. They also had magnets holding them to the track.

'69 Penske Donohue Sunoco Trans Am Camaro still in the package...
Reluctantly sold it a few months ago. ( pics )
Original Aurora did not make a '69 Camaro ThunderJet Slot Car.
In 1998 someone bought the "Model Motoring" name and rights
and produced some new very nice Bodies / Cars including a '69 Camaro.
Then something "happened" after the Sep 2008 crash and they stopped.
They're still in business it appears, but no more NICE '69 Camaros.
But they can still be found on eBay...

That Penske slot car would look better with the AF/X wheels and tires on it.
