Digital automotive meter recommendations?
« on: September 05, 2018, 12:52:44 AM »
My trusty Sears/ Penske analog tuneup meter failed with a bad meter after decades of use.
I was looking at a modern replacement but have read several reviews about digital meters and many have a common complaint of erratic RPM and dwell measurements. The only analog meters I see on eBay are used and I'm reluctant to take a chance. Can anyone recommend a digital meter with a stable readout? My primary goal is dwell and RPM for tuneups.

Thanks!
Mike

They make digital testers nowadays ? Lol -

I couldn't miss a chance to plug good ole Made in the USA. I felt my old RAC was getting a little long in the tooth (used since maybe '68-'69), so I bought a new Craftsman tester, made in the USA, gosh knows how long ago. I acquired another analog Sears tester about two years ago from a friend's estate, noticed it's no longer Made in the USA. Guess which one I expect to fail first ?

Regards,
Steve

I have an old Dixco myself. It still works fine. Came with a timing light in a set. The timing light was to dim for aging eyes so I did upgrade to an adjustable.

I wound up buying the Bosch version of the 7677. I was surprised how steady the dwell and RPM readings are.  ;)
I love the larger display too.....no more squinting with my ageing eyes.

I have the Fluke 87-V Digital Multimeter. It's a bit pricey though.
