Is this a Z/28 Shifter
« on: June 12, 2018, 05:43:19 AM »
I was told this was a'67 Z/28 shifter, or just a 4 speed shifter. I can't find any numbers on it anywhere. Couple of stamps on the shift rods themselves. Has the word Muncie stamped in it... small thread size for shift ball, a very large stamped " T "  Seems to be in very nice original condition. Even has the orange grease holder cap. Or at least that's what I call it. Need to get a value on it for sale purposes. Have someone interested, but don't know what to charge.. $500? Thanx... Danny

I did read that.. LOTS of info to take in.. I think I have determined it's not a 3 speed, and it's not a big block shifter. Still hoping someone chimes in. Looks like there is no specific Z/28 shifter. Just a 4-speed shifter. Danny

Danny, how are you, first of all. Second, that is the hi performance shifter for 67. The std shifter did not say uncle on it. That is the shifter that was on my 67 RS/SS 350.

From reading the links it looks like there are at least some parts difference between the Muncie and the Saginaw. It would help the value if you determine which. If I had a SS car I was doing the Muncie would be what I was looking for. Just from memory it looks very similar to one I had from a 69 Chevelle that had a Muncie 3 speed. After several tries and being told that there were no Muncie 3 speeds in 69 I had to pull the trans and take it to the speed shop for the Hurst rep to see to get a shifter.

Wow..

It’s just a Muncie shifter.  If the stabilizer bar is straight then it’s sb.  Bent then bb.  EVERY 4 speed Muncie in 67 & 8 received that shifter..  Everything you need to know is in that link..

Let me elaborate on my previous statement.  If you could take better photos of the rods then you could determine for certain if they were 67 or 8.  The shifter body itself is the same.

From the perspective of the photos it appears to be a combination of 7 & 8 rods.

Some Approximate Measurements to determine '67 or '68? All 3 rods measure 7/16ths inches. And two of the rods at the short mounting stud are 3/8ths. The first & Second gear at the short mounting offset is 1/4"   Danny

So looks like reverse and 3rd & 4th rods are '67 Muncie and 1st & 2nd rod is '68 Muncie. The stabilizer overall length is 9-7/8ths inches, and the slot in it is 1-1/8th inches. So that is small block '68 Muncie. Ok, so with that said. Value??  Danny
