Side Glass - Coupe or Convertible?
« on: April 02, 2018, 01:11:16 AM »
Is there a simple way to determine if uninstalled side glass is from a coupe or a convertible? As far as I know, the door glass is the same shape/size for '68 and '69 regardless of body style (correct me if wrong!) but the quarter glass is a different shape between coupe and convertible. Thanks for any tips in spotting the difference!

I know an easy way to spot 68 from 69 door glass is 68 has a flat bottom vs 69 has a "wave" to it. I have been told 68 door glass will work in a 69. Quarter glass, I would think if you had them next to each other the 69 quarter glass would be slightly larger, but that is just me imagining the cars.
Convertible glass vs. hardtop glass I am uneducated on. Sorry

Thanks Austin. I've been comparing pictures of coupes and convertibles and think I can see the 'vert glass has a more pronounced curve to the top/rear, so hopefully that's correct.

Well nothing worse than posting a question where nobody responds. Surprised a convertible guy hasn't responded. Everyone must be purchasing finished cars these  days... ;D

I have been looking for a early piece of LOF soft ray passenger door glass for my white car along with a similar piece for my rear glass, so i have become a little educated along the way.  :)

Tim,

Sent you pictures of convertible and coupe quarter glass side by side, and placed on top of one another. I do not know how to post pictures so post them if you like.

Here are the photos from Warren (WorkinProgress), great pictures, very helpful thank you.
Picture 1 has the coupe and convertible quarter glass laid on top of each other to show the different edge profile.
Picture 2 has the convertible glass on the left and the coupe on the right.
Picture 3 is of the coupe quarter glass.
Picture 4 is of the convertible quarter glass.
Note the convertible glass has a more pronounced curvature to the top rear, and is slightly narrower front-to-back along the body line.

According to my Hollander interchange:

Windshield 67-9 hdt same, 67-9 conv same,
67-9 hdt back glass same,
Door glass regardless hdt or conv are same for 67 only , 68-9 same for hdt & conv,
1/4 glass 67 unique to 67, different hdt from conv
1/4 glass for 68-9 are same (interchange) for hdt., same for 68-9 1/4 glass for conv which interchange. But hdt is different from conv. ( as seen above) hdt= hardtop coupe. Conv = convertible

Not sure why or what on a 67 1/4 glass, irrespective of hdt or conv, is different from 68-9
