Pics of Riveted ball joints
« on: December 04, 2018, 11:28:01 PM »
Does anybody pictures of the what the rivets look like after the new ball joints are install and the rivets crushed. There are a number of pictures available of the original factory ball joints/rivets. I'm referring to the one's being done now. I had mine done 10 years ago and they look like somebody smashed them with a BFH, just flattened them down. I happen to be looking at factory rivet and noticed they are rounded on the top. This has me questioning the appearance of mine. Thanks

Mine don't look like that and they were done by somebody that is supposed to know what they should look like. I'll look around for somebody else that can do this set or I'll use the rivets with the nuts on the bottom. Great pictures. Thank you

Chick, I wish you would stop that. I've got enough depression with the winter and the holidays going on than to have you remind me of perfection - lol.

I used a selfie stick to get a shot of the original ball joint on my 67 convertible with the tire still mounted.
It has patina but it shows what the original rivet crushed ends looked like. They have sort of a small cone shape to them.
The bottom of the rivets have the flat head as shown in Chick's picture.
Excuse the post-season disc brake dust. I'll clean the chassis during the winter recess.

By coincidence I just noticed several upper control arms that appear to still have original riveted ball joints, during my daily trawl of the good, the bad and the downright ugly on ebay.
Pretty crusty, but the pictures may be of interest:
