Standard steering wheel for 1969 SS
« on: March 20, 2018, 10:33:10 PM »
Didn’t really find this answer in a search, but what did the standard steering wheel look like for a 69 SS and what did the optional wheel look like? Can you determine what wheel came on the car at birth with the original invoice or protect-o-plate?

You can tell from the invoice sometimes. Can you post a picture of the invoice?....Joe

Forgive the condition of the invoice.  I might have a reproduction made but here is the original:

Your car would have been built with a red standard steering wheel. With the Z23 special interior group, the center shroud would have the wood grain applique with an SS emblem.

That looks to be the original window sticker, not the invoice. You're lucky to have it!

Your wheel would be the 2 bar type with wood trim in the center. That was part of the Special Interior. Nice that you have the window sticker. When reading them, you're looking at what it had from the factory. People sometimes add from here like special hood, spoilers, etc. To me that's the blueprint for a car restoration. Understanding what is included with each option...Joe

Do whatever you can to preserve and protect your original documentation.  Your *original* documentation has great significance, whereas reproductions have none...  :)

I know spoilers were optional on SS cars, but at one point did spoilers come with the SS package, as they did with the Z/28? I noticed his car has spoilers now, but I wasn't sure if they were added, or just came with the SS at one point.

No, spoilers were never included with Camaro SS equipment. They were a required option with Z10 & Z11 and were listed on documentation.

When spoilers were included with Z/28 equipment, they were not listed on factory documentation.
