1969 colors for dash, ash tray, and glove box
« on: October 26, 2017, 04:35:17 PM »
I have a 1969 Camaro coded as dark blue interior.  Should the metal on the dash, ash tray, and glove box be dark blue or black?  If they should be dark blue, should the inside of the glove box and ash tray be painted as well?

The horizontal surface [top] of the metal dash would be blue with 715 or 716 interior trim. It had a non-glare finish known as 'suede' similar to the wrinkle finish on some tool boxes. Suede was also used on the metal trim around the rear window, speaker and defogger grilles.

For standard interior [715] cars the vertical surfaces [including ash tray & glove box] would also be blue but a semi-gloss finish. Custom interior cars [716] had faux wood trim covering this area.

On very early production cars the VIN tag was painted to match. That quickly changed to black suede regardless of trim color.

On my 715 interior car, the inside face of the glovebox door is also painted blue, the hinged ashtray door has some coverage inside too, but it's not full coverage over the back of the ashtray insert. The rest is as William described, including the vin tag painted black suede (04A built).
