Kidde fire extinguisher recall
« on: November 02, 2017, 05:19:28 PM »
As most of us have at least one fire extinguisher in our classic cars (and homes), Kidde has just announced a recall on a TON of their plastic handle and push button extinguishers sold between January 1st, 1973 and August 15th, 2017.

You can read more about it HERE and HERE.

CHECK YOUR MODEL NUMBERS AND MANUFACTURE DATES!!!

Just checked mine, recalled. I had it standing by when I started my 1949 P/U this past weekend after 20 years of dormancy, picture of it sitting on the driveway close to the truck. Good thing when the carb flooded out I didn't have to try the extinguisher -

Regards and thanks,
Steve

Six out of our twelve are in the recall.
And don't  foget the extinguishers  on boats. Kidde sells a lot  to boat manufacturers.

As an aside, there's a TON of information in THIS THREAD regarding brands of extinguishers and how they stack up, but it's well worth reading.

I would highly recommend a HalGuard H3R Performance fire extinguisher for your classic car. It contains Halotron, electrically non-conductive "clean" extinguishing agent that rapidly turns into a gas. It attacks fires involving flammable liquids quickly and safely, with no danger of electric shock, and without leaving a damaging residue to clean up. Check it out, In my opinion it is well worth the investment!
